21. African Dance
African dance, also known colloquially as “Afro”, refers primarily to the dance of sub-Saharan Africa and more appropriately to African dances due to the many cultural differences in music and movement styles. These dances are followed in close connection with the traditions of Sub-Saharan African music and the Bantu rhythm building block.
Dances teach social patterns and values and assist people in their study, maturation, praise, or criticism while celebrating festivals and funerals, competing, reading history, proverbs, and poetry; and encountering the god’s African dances are largely participatory and the audience is part of the performance.
There are traditionally no barriers between dancers and spectators, with the exception of some spiritual, religious, or initiation dances. Even the ritual dances are often attended by the audience. All they want is communication and interaction. As can be seen, they show this with their religious and political dances.
