4. Thorsmork, Iceland

Thorsmork is a lush natural paradise nestled among glaciers in Iceland’s Southern Highlands. Named after Thor, the Norse God of Thunder, the valley offers many exciting possibilities for all nature lovers visiting Iceland.

Thorsmork is popular with hikers. Many different tours are possible, from hiking on glaciers to trekking (i.e. from Laugavegur to Landmannalaugar) or smaller excursions such as the Stakkholtsgjá canyon with waterfalls or five small-day hikes, to the summits of surrounding peaks, to rewarding views. Krossá is a cold, rapid river flowing through glaciers; A bridge allows pedestrians to cross. Coaches arrive daily from Reykjavik and other cities in Iceland.
